When You Don’t Believe You Can Fly | A Tip for Parenting When It’s Hard

One of my favorite quotes is from Martin Luther King, Jr. It says, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” This quote is about racial tension, but I think it can apply to parenting as well. Parenting is rewarding work, but it’s also really hard work. You probably don’t always feel like you can fly when you’re parenting. Parenting is frustrating and exhausting at times, but no matter what, don’t give up. Keep moving forward. Even if you’re crawling, you are still moving forward. There are rewards in not giving up. Our kids need us to not give up on them. We might want to give up because we aren’t perfect, but parenting isn’t about being perfect. I know it’s tough and you don’t always know what to do, but don’t give up. Keep moving forward. You as a parent matter, your kids matter, and your community matters.

When you make better choices you will live a better life, so choose well. Oh yeah!
