Teachers: Have You Ever Thought This?

Educators, I want to give you some encouragement today. You have a challenging job and it probably seems like it goes unnoticed most of the time. But it doesn’t.

Watch the video and have a discussion with your class or someone you know. Below, there are some suggested questions or writing prompts.

I recently had a visit to a school and I gave a lesson. A pretty ordinary lesson. There were no epiphanies or incredible life changes afterward. I could look at that and think it didn’t have any impact.

Educators often do ordinary lessons every day. There are no epiphanies or incredible life changes afterward. However, you are planting and watering seeds.

You are not in control of the growth, but you get to cultivate an environment where kids can choose to grow.

Educators, thank you for all you do!

Questions for Discussion:

What does it mean to plant and water seeds in the classroom? In school?

Can students plant and water seeds in other students? What does that look like?

Educators, can you share a time that one of your past students was impacted by something you taught them?

Activity: Students can write thank you notes to educators at their school. Anyone who works at the school is an educator. Educators are teachers, aides, yard duty, lunch staff, bus drivers, office staff, janitors, etc.
